UYEDA BISYODO

An Exquisite Brush Series Crafted with the Finest Gray Squirrel Hair and Ebony Handles
This collection offers unparalleled quality, combining the exceptionally soft touch of gray squirrel hair with the elegance of ebony wood. Thanks to the unique gentleness of gray squirrel bristles, it allows for vertical application—something that often causes irritation with other types of hair. This enables the tips of the bristles to reach directly into the pores, helping to prevent makeup from lifting.
The ultra-fine, delicate hair fibers ensure seamless powder adherence, creating a naturally radiant finish. Another distinctive feature of gray squirrel hair is its ability to achieve subtle layering of colors, allowing effortless control over the depth and intensity of application.

UYEDA BISYODO
Origins – Inheriting the Art of Japanese Brushmaking
Traces of brush-like tools can be found as early as the late Neolithic period (around 8500 B.C.), where patterned markings suggest the use of primitive writing instruments. In Japan, as Buddhism flourished during the Nara period, the practice of transcribing sutras (shakyō) spread, greatly increasing the demand for brushes and establishing brushmaking across the country.
Later, in the Heian period, the renowned calligrapher Kūkai introduced the latest brushmaking techniques from China. He passed this knowledge on to Japanese artisans, who crafted brushes presented to the Imperial Court—marking the beginnings of what we now call wafude (Japanese brushes).
From their origins as tools for “writing,” these brushes gradually evolved into instruments for “drawing,” eventually giving rise to cosmetic brushes.
Ueda Bisyodo is a brush workshop that inherits and preserves the traditional techniques of Japanese brushmaking.
About the Hair Quality

Ueda Bisyodo is Japan’s only raw hair importing and processing company. By combining traditional Japanese hair-refining techniques with those of Europe, we have developed our own original processing method. This brings out the natural beauty and maximum potential of each type of hair used in our brushes.
For example, even when making something as small as an eyeshadow brush, different natural hairs may be selected—such as gray squirrel, Canadian squirrel, or weasel. Why? Because each makeup area and purpose requires specific functionality and finish. By skillfully blending a wide range of natural hairs, we can create brushes that produce fine lines, sharp definition, delicate finishes, or soft and airy textures.
For face and cheek brushes, smooth gradation, refined texture, and natural color payoff are essential. For the eyes, brows, and lips, precision and vivid pigmentation are required to achieve beautifully drawn lines. Each type of high-quality natural hair possesses unique strengths, and by blending these characteristics, new possibilities are unlocked.
At Ueda Bisyodo, we combine decades of expertise with the finest materials to craft brushes that bring out the very best in makeup application.
